Dear Yuletide Writer 2020

Hi Yuletide writer! I am [archiveofourown.org profile] prodigy; I'm looking forward tremendously to Yuletide this year and can't wait to find out what we've matched on and what you come up with. Thank you in advance for writing for me and I hope you're as excited about our shared fandom as I am - I'm interested in your idea and your interests more than anything, and above anything else I'd love to read a fic you had fun writing. Happy Yuletide in advance, and try not to sweat it. :) ♥

My canon-specific DNWs are listed next to each prompt, but here's the basic repeated list: DNWs: harm to pet animals; explicit sexual content involving child characters (defined as under 18); PWP or an exclusively sex-scene-focused story; ‘setting’ AUs such as modern, coffeeshop, or fusion The only exception is the last DNW - setting AUs - which I've excepted/waived for my third quest, which is for The Tudors.

Aside from those, I am pretty flexible. Here's a list of some things I like in fic: canon-divergence AUs; plot and plot devices to compel character change; humor especially if it's dark, bittersweet, or wry under bleak circumstances (but also just humor in general); push-pull powerplay and vying for control or against vulnerability, especially if it's bidirectional and there is no uncomplicated 'winner'; fraught nonmonogamous feelings or situations that may not fall neatly into or out of polyamory (or, when people love more than one person); bisexual characters in same-gender or different-gender pairings; passionate true belief, crises of faith, and apostasy; infidelity; lies to the self and others; bonding in absurdly down-to-earth or 'mundane' situations; searches for meaning, positive or negative.

Here I will list my requests again just for the record, which should be identical to what's on the signup form:

Deeplight: Quest, The Hidden Lady

My very favorite overarching thing in Deeplight is the "yet each man kills the thing he loves" story doubled between Hark & Jelt and Quest & the Hidden Lady, and I kept hoping the novel would shy away from it less - so I'd really love a story about Quest and the Hidden Lady that is, truly, Quest/Hidden Lady in an overtly romantic (fucked up, tragic, horrible, terrifying) way - Quest denies that he had those kinds of feelings for her, but is that really true? What is it like to develop a relationship with a mad god-monster-(? what is the best thing to call her?) for whom you hold fear and revulsion and contempt but also pity, attachment, fondness? Is there any part of him that ever, in spite of it all and what he knows and what he insists to Hark, became a kind of twisted believer? I'm interested in a story about their interactions before he killed her - more characterization on her and her memories, her reactions and feelings towards him - or, alternately, something about what it meant for him to become the keeper of her story. All ratings welcome!

Fate/Zero: Artoria Pendragon, Lancelot of the Lake

The reveal of Lancelot's identity in Fate/Zero is still something I find incredibly harrowing near the end of a very harrowing season, and Artoria's reaction even as weary and haggard and bereaved as she is at this point - they have History. It’s entangled. It’s brutal. I ship it. I would definitely love the Fate/Zero version of Arthur/Lancelot here, in whatever form that takes: for example, backstory filling-in about their lives in their own time (relationships with Guinevere very much welcome as a subject), with whatever liberties you feel like taking when it comes to any other property or lore: I’m interested in this as a standalone backstory to Fate/Zero itself. Alternately, I love fix-its and AUs and more chances for the two of them to find a resolution to their heartbreak, or at least confront each other about it. I don’t have strong feelings on the handling of Arthur’s gender here, though I am primarily interested in the Arthur-Lancelot relationship here knowing Arthur as a king and the King of Knights, as a role. All ratings welcome!

The Tudors: Thomas Cromwell, Anne Boleyn

My completely warped quasi-RPF-but-only-in-the-sense-it’s-completely-mythologized OTP, I admit it - and this show most certainly planted the first seed of it. The Tudors as a shameless bodice ripper costume drama of a certain pre-prestige vintage absolutely leans into the chemistry, partly by casting two unfairly hot actors with a lot of chemistry to play out this toxic chess duel: he often seems to be the only man on stage immune to her charms (or is he, really!), and she the only person who sees through him; he wins, famously and catastrophically, or at least she loses - but in taking her down he seems to have sealed his fate in her undertow. Basically, I feel this is a great time to take massive liberties with history and/or Showtime and make these two blackhearted liars banter, clash, have to be honest, confess, fuck, fall in love, die, survive, or anything else fun under the sun: I really could not be happier with anything that preserves the undercurrent of tug-of-war of their dynamic, and here I’m making an exception to the ‘crazy setting AUs’ thing if that is what tickles your fancy. I am interested in what his originally-heretical faith signifies to him given how ruthless he is, and also in the complexities of her feelings about her family, but honestly knock yourself out. All ratings welcome!
